This pinion guard is built from a combo of 3/8" and 1/2" steel to stand up to real-world hits without flinching. The mounting plate is cut from solid 1/2", while the guard itself is 3/8" — thick enough to shrug off years of hard trail use. It offers better bolt access than older designs, while still fully shielding the hardware and extending far enough to actually protect the U-joint — not just the yoke.
